blizzard!

First there was this:

A 2.5 hour drive home from work on Tuesday.  I left ASAP, but streets and highways were already treacherous.  Allison was headed up north to a friend's place and we knew we were close to one another.  Imagine my surprise when she honked her horn and pulled up next to me.  We rolled down our windows, laughed, cursed the situation, and I snapped this picture. On the way home, David called to let me know he just heard on the radio that CPS canceled school for Wednesday--the first snow day since 1999!

Then there was this:

We had a blizzard party at Mark and Chris' place and then ended up stuck there (here).  We kind of knew we would end up staying the night, but we weren't really prepared for how bad it would get.  This picture is from the Tribune--Lake Shore Drive early this morning.  Hundreds of cars were stranded there last night and people finally abandoned them early this morning.  The city has spent all day trying to clear the mess.

Then there was this:

Franklin and I ventured out this morning to do his business. The drifts on the sidewalks were thigh-deep, but a plow had already been down the street once.  The snow stopped for a while before the last wave came through in the late morning.  Franklin is intrigued, but likes to get back inside ASAP.

After waddling and snooting around the apartment 100s of times, Franklin finally wore himself out and began napping.

Settlers of Catan. Chris had to read us the extensive rules. It was fun, but I didn't really have a chance. It was during this game that I found out that tomorrow would be another snow day from school! Yahoo! Chris won.
