the talk
I've been telling friends, nervously, that I'm kind of annoyed with Glee lately. The music becomes more and more processed and less and less realistic, the story lines more and more forced. Last week's episode was downright creepy at times, crossing student/teacher boundaries during Gweneth Paltrow's performance in class. It's just not cool.
But just when I think I'm annoyed enough to stop watching (I've skipped the previous 3 eps before this one), there is a glimpse of awesome. Kurt's father has the dreaded "talk" with Kurt and totally warmed my heart. If young people watch scenes like this and take them to heart, then it's almost worth the bombardment of mixed messages the rest of the show delivers.
Here's the best part and a clip of the scene:
"When you're intimate with someone in that way, you gotta know that you're exposing yourself. You're never gonna be more vulnerable, and that scares the hell out of a lot of guys...With two guys you've got two people who think that sex is just sex. It's gonna be easier to come by and once you start, you aren't gonna want to stop. You gotta know that it means something. It's doing something to you, to your heart, to your self-esteem, even though it feels like you're just having fun...When you're ready, I want you to be able to do everything. But when you're ready, I want you to use it as a way to connect to another person. Don't throw yourself around like you don't matter, because you matter."
